Working With A Golf Tour Operator When Traveling To the Mid-Atlantic Region

An Interview With Nick Ciattei, President from Mid-Atlantic Golf Getaways nick@midatlanticgolfgetaways.com

Looking to plan the perfect golf trip to Mid-Atlantic? Planning a buddies trip or a romantic golf getaway can be a full time job not to mention pressure filled to deliver a memorable experience. Below is an interview with Nick Ciattei, President from Mid-Atlantic Golf Getaways who shares some insider information about traveling to Mid-Atlantic.

Please provide a brief company overview and why you enjoy being a golf tour operator?
Mid-Atlantic Golf Getaways partners with golf courses, resorts and hotels across four states and has been a one stop for custom stay-and-play golf trips since 2001. We feature some of the best golf courses this region has to offer with many placing in the Top 10 of their respective states.

We are golfers ourselves. We know the game. We know our regions.
We KNOW what golfers like on a golf trip and do everything possible to fulfill their needs.

Why should traveling golfers use your service as opposed to going directly through a golf course?
No matter what the size of your group is, you'll receive the same service from our regional golf experts whether you are planning a golf vacation for 2 or for 102. We listen to our customers, then provide our professional feedback and will do everything we can to make your trip a memorable one. Some of our patrons have been with Mid-Atlantic Golf Getaways for nearly 20 years!

What tips might you share with travelers as they start planning their golf trip? (general golf travel plans)
Have an idea of what types of courses you want to play.

Have a main date and a secondary date.

Having a general budget in mind is also a must.

What benefits can your business provide traveling golfers?
Let's say you have a group of 16 and you are the group leader. If you prefer, you can have EACH of your golfers contact us directly with their payment.

Our payment options include direct payment services PAYPAL and VENMO

We offer discounts to area restaurants and other regional information needed to make your trip a success.

We provide you with scorecards and goodies to complete your package.

We OFFER 100% refunds on cancellations within our 30-day window.
AND we offer RAIN REFUNDS, not rainchecks like many golf travel companies.

Any tips on working with you or golf travel operator?
Have questions ready to ask us and we will give you the suggestions for trips, areas and courses based upon that.

Understand that sometimes we may have to change the course rotation order or replace a course. In these cases, we always try to do what is best for the golf package success.

Choose a destination you specialize in and provide a typical or sample itinerary (golf and lodging, extra activites)?
Winchester Virginia is one of our best success stories. It has been featured across the nation on regional sports networks.

A favorite 3-day/2 Night package is playing both the courses at Rock Harbor (The Rock and The Boulder) in Winchester. Then add one of 9 regional courses including Blue Ridge Shadows, Shenandoah Valley and Bowling Green North.

Lodging choices include locations minutes from the downtown area. We even feature an historic downtown boutique hotel as an option.

Downtown Winchester will be the hot spot for your after-golf activities with a plethora of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

Charles Town Races and Slots is an easy 25-minute drive from most hotels.

There are museums, battlefields and historic landmarks to complete your activity schedule.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
